Pied-billed Grebe
What a frustrating day. I have been so busy at work lately that I have been pressed to find time to get out and take some pictures of birds. Finally managed to get away for close to two hours today, road my bike over to the park, and there were all kinds of great birds I haven't gotten pictures of yet - doing interesting things! A grackle being harassed by some blackbirds. A couple of pigeons mating. A hawk that I watched scoop up a mouse, that I then followed through the park back to his home-tree where he dismembered and ate it. Baby ducks just being cute. I was clicking away, capturing everything!
I had the camera set to the wrong setting and all the pictures turned out awful. I don't pretend to know anything about cameras in general or my camera in specific. I turn it to "AUTO" and let it do the thinking. If I'm feeling adventurous, I might switch it to the little picture of someone running outside. But today I forgot to even look at it. It was set to "S." I still don't have the slightest idea what "S" means, other than your pictures will "S"uck.
I imported them into iPhoto on the Mac and was able to let it automatically adjust some settings so you could at least see that the pictures were of birds. Here's a picture of a Pied-billed Grebe that the computer salvaged.
The settings on this are tweaked all to hell, and it's still dark, despite being taken on a beautiful, bright and sunny spring afternoon.
Okay. Time to go read the manual and find out what "S" is supposed to be for.
