Domestic Chicken

We have season tickets to Knott's Berry Farm, and every time we go, we stop to admire the chickens.

This rooster is looking particularly admirable, what with the heavenly light and all.  Take a look at the size of his spurs.

Knott's is famous for its chicken dinner restaurant. It's been there forever, and there is always a line out the door.  And for some reason there's a whole bunch of domestic chickens that live on the property and across the street.  The biggest group is on the other side of Beach Boulevard, where the parking lot is located.  So we arrive, park, have a nice afternoon with Snoopy, ride some rides, then we leave and go hang out with the chickens on the way back to our car.

Usually there's some baby chicks in the bushes.  Yesterday, all we could find for babies were these juveniles - chicken teenagers.  Not as cute as the babies.

Here's a hen.  I have no idea what kind of domestic chickens these are.  There are several varieties that live in the park, and I bet a lot of them are hybrids of different varieties.  Despite quite a bit of looking online, I still don't know what that rooster up on top is.  I now know he has a small single comb, no wattle, and red earlobes mostly covered by feathers.  But I don't know what to call him other than "chicken."  That's probably enough.
