American Crow
The reason I like doing this blog is it's specific. It's not "Charlie's blog." I did one of those a few years ago and it sucked. Even I didn't care what I had to say about politics. I went to post something during the '08 presidential election and realized I hadn't posted anything since the '04 presidential election. The only post worth reading I ever put on that blog was one about how a Cooper's Hawk flew in our back door, into our kitchen, and tried to eat our parrot.
That's a long way of saying having rules is important for me in this blog. I started it just to have a place to keep track of the neighborhood birds I was able to photograph and identify. If I start straying from that, it's going to get boring fast.
So we went to the zoo last week in San Diego. The Wild Animal Park, to be specific. I got lots of neat pictures of birds. California Condors, Burrowing Owls, a Bald Eagle. But I have to draw the line somewhere, and pictures of zoo birds is over the line. That's what Facebook is for.
But pictures taken in the zoo of non-zoo birds I regularly see in the neighborhood seems okay, right?
This is an American Crow, photographed in the San Diego Wild Animal Park, April 14, 2010 with the Nikon.
I also feel compelled to mention at this point I reserve the right to re-visit certain birds. The crow is one. Red-tailed Hawk is another. I love those birds, and I am pretty sure I'll post about them more than once. Next time it'll be a picture actually taken in the neighborhood. Promise.
